  1. Arts Commission

    The Sterling Heights Board of Review is comprised of 6 city residents who meet for at last 3 days beginning on the 3rd Monday of each March to hear taxpayer appeals of the state equalized values and/or taxable values which the Assessing Office has placed on their properties.

  5. Brownfield Redevelopment Authority

    The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA) provides a for the City to use to revitalize brownfields which are abandoned, undeveloped, or underutilized properties not being developed or fully utilized due to environmental contamination.

    The Economic Development Corporation encourages the economic growth of the City through specially-funded project.

  12. Elected Officials' Compensation Commission

    The Elected Officials Compensation Commission sets salaries for city elected officials.

    The Election Commission oversees the provision of all necessary equipment for conducting an election.

  14. Ethnic Community Committee

    The Ethnic Community Committee serves as a forum for dealing with issues and concerns of the ethnic community in Sterling Heights.

  15. Historical Commission

    The Historical Commission promotes an awareness of the community's heritage, identifies local preservation concerns, attends workshops and seminars relating to preservation management, studies public policies designed to protect and preserve local history, provide opportunities for residents to share and shape their historical legacy.

    The Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA) assists in the redevelopment and development of industrial property.

    The Ordinance Board of Appeals works to preserve property values through strict enforcement of maintenance standards.

  20. Pension Board - General Employees

    The General Employees Retirement Board activity was established with the authority to administer, manage, and operate the retirement system following the provisions established by the retirement ordinance referenced in the City Charter and Code of Ordinances.

  21. Pension Board - Police and Fire

    The Police & Fire Pension Board oversees the activities of the police and fire pension system.

  22. Planning Commission

    The Planning Commission develops and adopts a Master Land Use Plan for the physical growth and development of the City, reviews and approves public development proposals, and develops and implements zoning and subdivision regulations.

    The Solid Waste Management Commission reviews and updates the city's position regarding solid waste disposal activities.

    The Telecommunications Commission oversees guidelines for the use of government and library access programming.

  26. Zoning Board of Appeals

    The Zoning Board of Appeals hears and acts upon appeals on various zoning matters related to the development and use of land in the City and to provide ordinance interpretation.
